What other features are in SU Animate

Highlight of additional features

Delay is a powerful new feature that allows the user to delay a specific path and any groups assigned to that path for a set number of scenes. Simply type in the number of scenes the group(s) is desired to delay for and update the attributes. This feature will allow much more complex animations such as assemblies.
One group can be animated on more than one path. Used in tangent with Delay, now you can animate one group on more than one path allowing for animations such as up and down, clock wise and counter-clock wise motion of one group.
More than one group can be animate on a single path. You can animate several groups on the same path. For example, place the camera and an object on the same path. This will give the effect of the camera following an object in the animation.
New User Interface. The web dialog interface makes assigning groups or camera or both to paths, easy.
Repeat allows you to create an animation that have paths that repeat themselves within an animation.

This flash tutorial will explain the important new features in SU Aniamte 2.0 especially how to use the new Delay feature.Although the most current version of SU Animate is version 3.0, the 2.0 video's explain the use of delay very well.

Additional videos and samples

Each example below has a Flash video file and a corresponding SketchUp file. Each SketchUp file is ready for SU Animnate's Make Scenes. Open each SketchUp file, examine the paths that are setup and when ready, pick Make Scenes and then Play the animation using SketchUp's View, Animation, Play menu command. The below video files are using SU Animate 2.0 but just as relevant in version 3.0.

Overall Video tutorial with audio explanation

This Flash based video tutorial show examples of delay, repeat, one group on more than one path, many groups on one path and other complex examples. Click on the image to launch. The Flash file is quite large so it will take a minute or two to download and run. This video requires the most recent version of Adobe's Flash player. Get Flash player here.

Delay

This Flash based video tutorial shows a simple way to use Delay with SU Animate 2.0. The example also demonstrates the new user interface.

This Flash based video tutorial shows the functionality of Delay with the Repeat being employed on one of the closed paths and not employed on the other closed paths (circles)

One group on more than one path

This Flash based video tutorial examines how you can apply one group to more than one path. In this case the same box is animated up one path, down one path.

Similar to the above example, this case, a box is animated along two paths. The paths are closed circles with repeat off and the box is rotated in two directions.

This example, is slightly more complex than the previous examples and incorporates both closed and open paths.

Repeat

This Flash based video tutorial shows a simple example of how Repeat works on a open path. Notice how there are more Frames then there are segments to the path.

Many groups along the same path

In this example we see how more than one group can be assigned to the same path. In this case the path is an open curve.

Similar to the above example but the paths are closed circles with repeat turned off.

Using several of the features

In this case, a camera and group a are animated along a closed circle. The repeat is left on. The circle animation will only repeat itself to as many frames there are in the animation. (Keep in minde SU Animate's repeat is refers to animation on a particular path. By default, SketchUp repeats the entire animation continously.)

In this case, a camera is treated as a group and animated along more than one path. The second path has delay applied.

Another example of where the camera is animated along more than one path.

This is a more complex example of Repeat on a open path. When you make scenes, create 252 frames (three times the number of segments) and you will notice the camera makes it out of the maze, even though the original path is considerably shorter.

More fun with camera and repeat. Make sure you have at least two times as many frames as there are segments in the path.

This Flash based video tutorial shows a complex assembly being animated. This is the kind of animation you can now create with Delay
